  • 2 (15 oz) cans black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup finely chopped mushrooms
  • 1 medium onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (use vegan version if preferred)
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 6 sesame seed buns
  • Leaf lettuce
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Sliced onions
  • Mayonnaise (or vegan mayo)
  • Sliced pickles
  • Ketchup
  1. Mash black beans in a bowl but not too gooey leave some chucks for better texture.
  2. Take a pan and put 1 tablespoon of olive oil (or any oil you prefer). sauté mushrooms, sliced onions and garlic chucks (mashed with tiny chunks) until the moisture evaporates. It will take only 5 to 8 min.
  3. Mix up sautéed vegetables with mashed beans and after that add breadcrumbs, eggs, Worcestershire sauce and all mentioned seasonings.
  4. After the mixture is completely blended with each other. Pat it together and let it cool. Now make 6 to 8 equal size patties for burger and then refrigerate it for 30 min to firm up.
  5. Heat remaining oil in a large skillet over medium flame. Cook these patties for 4 to 5 minutes on each side until it is golden brown and crispy.
  6. Toast buns until lightly golden on medium flame on the same skillet.
  7. Assemble burgers: spread mayo on bottom bun. After that lettuce, veggie patty, tomato, onion, pickles and ketchup (you can add or exclude any ingredient in your assembling process you want)
  8. Serve immediately while patties are warm and crisp for better results.
  • Pat beans very dry before mashing to prevent mushy patties .
  • Don’t skip the refrigeration part because it helps patties hold shape.
  • These patties Can be frozen for up to 3 months before cooking. 
  • Use a spatula to firmly press patties while cooking for a crispy exterior.
